Anise is a floral Mediterranean plant known for its aromatic seeds, which we use in this bar. The unique scent is similar to that of black licorice. If you like black licorice, welcome to the very small club. We are a minority, but because I like this scent so much, it’s my absolute favorite soap (Karen here).

Ingredients: Lard, coconut oil, olive oil, goat milk, lye (none remains after the chemical reaction), water, essential oil, charcoal (for color).

Because our soaps are made using the cold process method, they begin at a higher weight and naturally lose some weight as they dry and cure. Our bars start at approximately 5 ounces when they are freshly made, but as they cure and moisture evaporates, they typically finish between 3.5 and 4.5 ounces. Since every bar is hand-poured and hand-cut, they won’t all be perfectly identical in size or weight—and that’s part of the charm of handmade soap!
